It's important to note when developing software, that sometimes your program will be a bit... hungry. Software will take whatever processing it can get, and it's important to ensure that your games aren't too heavy on that side - or they may not run as well.
I noticed this article came up on the Reddit /r/gamedev, and thought it deserved a bit of discussion - A case study for an algorithm used to dynamically generate maps. I found this to be very useful - a good description of the algorithm, plus a bit of description on possible uses.
Here's a site with the sprite dumps from Mario games: Mario Mayhem. These are good for perspective, since they're among the most easily recognisable characters in video gaming.
After my last post on sprites a few days ago, I've managed to find a few other sites of use for Sprite development/design inspiration.
I like sprites, and I love to make them. However, it is a very inspiration/time absorbing activity, and cannot always stick to a strict schedule. I've been vaguely considering hitting someone up for some comission work - $50 or so, and they hand over the right for me to use it in future works, etc (with credits). Blah.
Anyway, here's a few links for sources of sprite based inspiration for those who are looking to make their own games, etc.
